Inserts

Precision glass inserts for various connection and sealing applications.

Inserts Overview

Inserts (or split-ring type inserts) are internal sealing components used in conjunction with backing flanges to complete a coupling interface. They provide the actual gasket or sealing ring through which two mating surfaces are pressed. These inserts are generally made of cast iron (for structural context) with internal lining (such as asbestos historically) or composite gasket materials. Their split design allows them to be installed or removed without disassembling flanges entirely. In modern practice, non-asbestos or elastomeric or composite insert materials may replace asbestos for improved chemical safety and performance.

Key Features

  • Borosilicate glass construction
  • Precision manufactured
  • Chemical resistant
  • Various configurations available

Specifications

Important technical details include:

– **Type**: Split-ring design for ease of installation and removal

– **Material**: Cast iron body, sometimes lined internally (historically asbestos; now non-asbestos or composite alternatives)

– **Size Range**: Manufactured in sizes matching DN 25 to DN 300 (or more) as per flange standards

– **Gasket Material Options**: Depending on chemical compatibility, inserts may be lined with PTFE, graphite, or other gasket materials

– **Tolerance & Fit**: Must precisely match flange bore, bolt hole alignment, and seating surfaces

– **Pressure / Vacuum Capability**: The insert must maintain sealing under the process’s pressure or vacuum load

– **Replaceability**: Designed to be replaced independently of flange hardware, minimizing downtime

– **Customization**: Inserts may be customized to special dimensions, thickness, or gasket lining as per application needs

Applications

Inserts are utilized in nearly all glassware coupling systems which require sealing between flanges. Their use cases include:

– Sealing glass-to-glass, glass-to-metal, or bellow joints

– Retrofit or maintenance operations where gasket replacement is frequent

– High-purity or corrosive chemical systems needing inert sealing surfaces

– Laboratory, pilot plant, or industrial modular glass systems

– Situations needing minimal downtime sealing—split ring inserts can be serviced with less disassembly

Their modular and replaceable character is key in maintaining long-term installation integrity and ease of maintenance.
